Natamycin

Natamycin is a polyene antibiotic. Polyene antibiotics are produced from a Streptomyces species. They interact with fungal cell membrane, sterols, primarily ergosterol, which causes increased permeability of cell wall that leads to cell lysis.
Natamycin is also known as pimaricin. It is a naturally occurring antifungal agent produced during fermentation by the bacterium Streptomyces natalensis, commonly found in soil.

Natamycin has been used  in the food industry to fungal outgrowth in dairy products, meats, and other foods

Mechanism of action:

Pharmacokinetics:

Natamycin was approved  for topical use by the US Food and Drug Administration in the late 1970s

Spectrum of  susceptible organisms :

It has a broad spectrum of sensitivities, especially to Fusarium species, other susceptible species are Aspergillus,Candida,Cephalosporium Cladosporium.
